Hp. Pfister, Präsident RSS

Dear members of the Rotary family, dear Rotary friends,

Following the devastating fire in Crans-Montana, many families are facing a tragedy of unprecedented magnitude. Young lives were lost, others were severely injured; many relatives are now living in uncertainty, distress or grief – sometimes hundreds of kilometres away from their homes.

In response to this situation, Rotary Switzerland–Liechtenstein, together with its partners at home and abroad, has decided to launch a fundraising campaign. The aim is to provide swift and unbureaucratic support to the victims and their families.

Funds raised through this initiative will be used where public authorities, insurance coverage or official support mechanisms cannot respond immediately or only cover needs in part. A dedicated account has been set up specifically for this purpose and is already operational.

The situations encountered are diverse and continue to evolve. At present, there is a particular need for temporary accommodation for relatives, transport costs, translation services, as well as medical, psychological or spiritual support – supplemented by one-off financial assistance in cases involving the care of hospitalised or deceased persons.

These needs are identified on a case-by-case basis and in close coordination with the social services of the responsible hospitals. The Rotary Club Crans-Montana, together with the three Governors and in cooperation with Rotary International, ensures the coordination and coherence of this approach. Absolute confidentiality is maintained at all times, and no information about the victims or their families is shared externally.

Our structure enables us to mobilise and channel financial resources and human expertise quickly and effectively. Every contribution, regardless of its size, makes a difference.

We invite members of the Rotary family in Switzerland and abroad to support this initiative and to demonstrate their solidarity. Thank you very much in advance for your commitment – also on behalf of the affected families.

With warm Rotary regards,

The Governors

Jouni Heinonen, John Manning and Andrea Weber
